On April 21, the Wild Energy Wuma River National College Street Dance Competition was held at Jinzhong College of Information, Shanxi Province. Huang Yongsheng and Hu Ruiqi, students specializing in street dance of dance performance, who were admitted to the School of Arts in 2023, took part in the competition on behalf of WUSU. Huang Yongsheng captured the championship in the breaking category and Hu Ruiqi made it to the top 8 in the popping category.
In the fierce breaking competition, Huang Yongsheng showed his super strength and competed with tough opponents. With smooth dance moves and neat rhythmic treatment, he demonstrated youthful vigor of contemporary street dance youngsters and made it all the way to the championship. In the popping competition, Hu Ruiqi enlivened the on-site performance with his outstanding performance, winning the applause and cheers from the audience and making it to the top eight.


The 2024 Wild Energy Wuma River National College Street Dance Competition is a national event which aims to provide a platform for every ordinary student who loves street dance to compete and communicate with each other on the same stage. The competition attracted over 300 street dance enthusiasts from 68 colleges and universities from 21 provinces and cities, including Beijing, Shaanxi, Hubei and Sichuan.
As street dance became an Olympic event, it is getting more and more attention from the society and becoming increasingly popular among people. The School of Arts was approved to set up the specialty of pop dance in 2023 to develop students’ professional practice capacity, further accelerate the professional construction of pop dance, and train specialists with strong comprehensive ability in performance, competition, training and creation for the society.
