On August 10 (Beijing time), Xu Lu, a 2021 undergraduate from the School of Sports Training at Wuhan Sports University (WHSU), clinched the gold medal in the women’s wakeboard freestyle final at the World Games 2025 Chengdu with a stellar score of 69.56, marking another golden moment for Team China.

A native of Sichuan, Xu Lu was brimming with confidence competing on home soil. In this highly challenging water adventure, she pushed beyond her limits. As her board sliced through the waters of Qinhuang Lake, Xu executed a series of breathtaking jumps, flips, spins, and landings—combining artistry and technical mastery—to claim the title.

Xu had already made waves at the World Games opening ceremony on August 7, where she and her partner A Lu Xiaobo lit the fire. The following day, she faced the grueling dual challenge of cable wakeboarding and wakeboard freestyle. Undaunted by pressure, she steadied her nerves and refined her form.

On the afternoon of August 8, Xu topped her group in the wakeboard freestyle preliminaries, securing a semifinal berth. She maintained her stellar performance in subsequent rounds, fighting for herself, her alma mater, and her country.

Since first riding the waves at age 12, Xu’s decade-long career has been a voyage through relentless challenges. Injuries temporarily sidelined her training, while performance fluctuations tested her resolve. Yet through it all, WHSU remained her anchor—a source of unwavering support. During slumps, the encouragement from coaches, classmates, and teammates became the wind beneath her wings, propelling her forward.

For Xu, this World Games gold is merely the launchpad: she vows to redefine the sport's limits with her signature style, sustain podium-ready performances, and hoist China's flag across global competitions.

Join us in celebrating Xu Lu's wakeboard freestyle triumph at Chengdu 2025—may she continue conquering new crests of excellence! Hats off to WHSU’s champions!
