Wuhan Sports University (WHSU) is fully committed to implementing President Xi Jinping's thoughton socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, the spirits of the National Education Conference and the Conference of Undergraduate Education in the New Era as well as the Hubei Provincial Education Conference. We dovetail our implementation with national strategies such as building China into an education power, a sports power and ahealthy China and the needs of economic and social development in Hubei. We adopt a problem-oriented, goal-oriented, and result-oriented approach, and strive to understand the laws of higher education, talent cultivation, and undergraduate education development at our university. Our primary focus is on cultivating morally and academically excellent talents to promote the modernization of our undergraduate education governance system, governance capacity, and reform and construction of undergraduate education to achieve high-quality development.
At WHSU, we are continuously working to optimize the structure of majors and improve major construction. In doing so, we carefully consider the unique circumstances of our university, as well as national major development strategies and the economic and social development needs of Hubei. To promote in-depth teaching research and reform, we take an output-oriented approach. This includes adjustingthe professional talent cultivating objectives, graduation requirements and curriculum system, as well as revising and improvingthe talent cultivation programs. In addition, we strive to develop top undergraduate majors, create majors that reflect WHSU's unique characteristics, and enhance our talent cultivation system.
Currently, theuniversity offers 25 undergraduate majors across 8 disciplines, including education, literature, economics, management, science, engineering, art, and medicine. We have 7 national first-class undergraduate majors and 6 provincial first-class undergraduate majors; 3 national-levelcharacteristic undergraduate majors and 4 provincial top-notch majors, 1 national-level pilot and 6 provincial pilots majors for comprehensive reform.
At WHSU, we insist on internal improvement. Our commitment to continually improving our teaching methods has resulted in significant accomplishments in teaching reform. We prioritize an output-oriented approach to education, reforming our curriculum system and teaching methods, and exploring innovative models for cultivating high-level talent. As a result, we have been able to promote the reform of our undergraduate education and teaching with great success. As a result of these efforts, we havefour national and 22 provincial first-class undergraduate courses, 5 high-quality online open courses recognized by the General Administration of Sport of China, and 30 provincial high-quality resource sharing courses, video open courses and high-quality courses. Six undergraduate projects of the strategic emerging (pillar) industry talent cultivating program of Hubei provincial universities and four "Hubei Excellent Talents" collaborative education programs of Hubei provincial universities were approved; two colleges at our university have been selected as pilot colleges for reform of Hubei provincial universities which will further promote innovative reform of our talent cultivation system and mechanism. In recognition of our achievements, we have received 9 awards in the 9th Hubei Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award, including 3 first prizes, 1 second prize, 5 third prizes, and 1 first prize of the Hubei ExcellentFoundational Education Teaching Achievement Award. In addition, 2 teaching achievements were recommended for the National Teaching Achievement Awards.
We are committed to deepening and expanding our international projects. We strive to promote the internationalization of education, and aim to cultivate international talents who have the capacity to participate in international affairs and international competitions with a global vision and knowledge of international rules. We share resources withworld-class higher educationinstitutions, further deepen international exchanges at multiple levels and in multiple fields, and promote substantial international cooperation with top international universities or research institutions, broadening the international vision of talent cultivation through building international courses, establishing joint international cooperation institutions and conducting high-level cooperative research.
We are dedicated to ensuring the highest quality of teaching management and improving our teaching quality assurance system. We prioritize the quality of talent cultivation as the core standard and sole criterion for achieving the goals of first-class talent cultivation and evaluation of the results of undergraduate education and teaching reform. Under such guidance we establish and improve the quality standard system of talent cultivating and quality evaluation system under the OBE concept. We leverage the expertise of the Teaching Steering Committee of WHSU and strengthen the functions of the Teaching Quality Evaluation and Monitoring Center to build a talent cultivating quality assurance system. This system is based on internal quality assurance at the university and college levels, with participation from academic organizations, industry departments, and social institutions. We also improve our supervision and assessment mechanism, forming a new assessment system that includes dynamic monitoring, regular assessment, and special supervision. We establish a linkage mechanism of teaching supervision, quality monitoring, teaching assessment, and teaching improvement. To accommodate the unique teaching cultivating characteristics of sports university, we are exploring and building a teaching quality standard system that is tailored to our needs. We construct a relevant supporting and transition system centering around the results of teaching quality evaluation, and taking the results of education and teaching performance and other relevant quality evaluation as important reference indexes for theuniversity to carry out the assessment of teaching work of colleges, the assessment oftheteachers and the development of related work.
