A winning start!

On September 26, the highlight match of the first round of the Wuhan Super Football League (University Group)—the “East Lake Derby”—kicked off in a thrilling clash at Wuhan Sports University (WHSU). Playing on their home ground, the WHSU football team secured a dominant 4-1 victory over Wuhan University in their season opener.

From the outset, both teams quickly found their rhythm, engaging in an intensely competitive battle. In the stands, more than 2,000 spectators cheered enthusiastically for the two sides, while on the pitch, the young players displayed determination and anticipation.

In the 11th minute, WHSU’s No. 7 player, Yi Jiapei, sprinted down the flank and delivered an accurate cross into the center of the penalty area.

No. 28, Gao Xingyu, rushed forward and slotted the ball home with a well-placed shot. 1-0! The audiences erupted in cheers.

Just 11 minutes later, WHSU launched another attack. No. 18, Zhang Peiming, sent a curved cross from the left, and No. 10, Sun Yupeng, displayed sharp instincts—leaping, heading, and firing the ball into the corner of the net. 2-0!

After the sides switched ends, WHSU’s offensive momentum continued unabated. In the 54th minute, a foul by Wuhan University outside the box gave WHSU a free kick.

No. 18, Zhang Peiming, stepped up and struck the ball cleanly into the net. 3-0! Zhang Peiming completed an impressive performance with two assists and a goal. In the 67th minute, WHSU scored again.

No. 19, Wang Qufei, delivered a precise corner into the box, where No. 5, Liu Runnan, outjumped his marker and headed home. 4-0!

During second-half stoppage time, Wuhan University won a set-piece opportunity in the attacking half. No. 26, Wang Zhihan, sent the ball into the penalty area, and No. 11, Cai Ziqin, rose high to head it into the goal, pulling one back for Wuhan University.

At the final whistle, players from both sides exchanged embraces, while fans in the stands remained, applauding and cheering relentlessly.

The “East Lake Derby” not only showcased the high level of university football but also embodied the spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship.

Every successful defensive counter and each brilliantly executed team goal electrified the crowd.

Titles such as Dragon and Lion Dance at the National Games, Youth Future Tense, Beautiful China, Magnificent Dragon Ball, the street dance Han Dynasty Surge, the modern dance Grace of Home and Nation, and the folk dance Ancient Stool, New Rainbow infused youthful energy into every movement, igniting the fans’ enthusiasm.

The WHSU men’s football team poured their passion into every drop of sweat and exemplified the “Hurricane Lamp Spirit” through relentless effort. Now, forged in the heat of the East Lake Derby, they set their sights fully on the Wuhan Super League Golden Cup!
