The duo had already demonstrated their championship potential in the preliminaries, topping their group with 423.33 points to advance to the finals. Entering last in the final, they opened strongly with 52.20 points, tying with Japan and Neutral Athletes Team B.

After three rounds of intense competition, they maintained a slim 3.18-point lead.

A technical error in their fourth dive temporarily dropped them to third place. Showing remarkable composure, they staged a spectacular comeback in the crucial fifth round with an 87.69-point dive, narrowing the gap to 13.11 points.

In the final decisive dive, the pair displayed extraordinary mental toughness and technical mastery, earning a near-perfect 90.72 points to complete their stunning comeback and secure the gold with 429.63 points overall.

Hailing from Xiangyang, Hubei, Cheng Zilong first took up diving at the age of seven and earned his place on the national team in 2023. Emerging as a promising new talent in Chinese diving team, he delivered a standout performance at this World Championships. On July 26, Cheng claimed his first world title in the mixed team event alongside Olympic champions Cao Yuan, Chen Yiwen and Chen Yuxi. Earlier today, he added a bronze in the mixed synchronized 3m springboard event with 305.70 points.

Let's congratulate Cheng Zilong and Zhu Zifeng for winning China's seventh diving gold at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships! May they make a splash again and achieve greater glory in future competitions—go Chinese divers! Go Team China!
