The 2024 National Kayak and Canoe Sprint Spring Championships were held at Guangdong International Rowing Center on March 21 to 24. A total of 452 athletes from 23 teams, including municipal and provincial teams, as well as the national training team, competed for gold medals in 22 events.

During the four days of fierce competition, kayakists and canoeists from WHSU did their best when facing strong opponents, securing three first places, one fourth place, one fifth place, three sixth places, three seventh places and one eighth place. Sun Yuewen, a young teacher at WHSU, worked together with her teammates in the national team to win the gold medal in the women’s kayak four 500m. Jiang Xila, a student admitted to the School of Competitive Sports in 2023, took both the women’s canoe single 500m and individual all-around titles.

The competition was fierce with qualification for the Paris Olympics at stake. The women’s kayak four 500m is a key event for the national canoe and kayak training team to prepare for the Olympics. Sun Yuewen and her teammates are shouldering the responsibility of achieving a breakthrough by winning the gold medal in the event at the Olympics. In the final of the women’s kayak four 500m on March 24, Sun Yuewen and her teammates clinched the gold medal by a wide margin with 1 minute and 33. 994 seconds. Jiang Xila, the 19 year-old canoeist, quickly adjusted her mindset after losing the previous day’s game, and eventually beat athletes of the national team in the final of the women’s canoe single 500m with 2 minutes and 13.560 seconds, securing the gold medal in the event. Meanwhile, she also took the individual all-around title in women’s canoe with most points on the leaderboard.
