On May 19, the 2024 National Canoe Sprint Youth Championships, co-hosted by the Water Sports Management Center of General Administration of Sport of China and the Chinese Yachting Association, concluded successfully at the Anhui Provincial Water Sports Management Center. The event attracted over 530 athletes from 26 teams from Guangdong, Henan, Shandong, Shaanxi and other provinces, with a total of 1,489 boats competing for gold medals in 44 events. The number of boats set a new record in the history of national canoe sprint events.

After four days of intense competition, athletes from WHSU, with their exceptional athleticism and unwavering teamwork, secured 2 gold, 3 silver, and 9 bronze medals, and placed between fourth and eighth in multiple events.

In the Women’s Group A competition, Jiang Xina, a 2023 student from the School of Competitive Sports, delivered an outstanding performance, winning gold medals in both the Women's Canoe Single 1000m and the Women's Canoe Double 500m. Additionally, her dominance continued in the Women's Canoe Single 200m and 5000m, where she secured two additional bronze medals. Teng Anshuo, also a 2023 student from the School of Competitive Sports, collaborated seamlessly with Jiang Xina to win the gold medal in the Women's Canoe Double 500m. Teng Anshuo also secured a bronze medal in the Women's Group A Canoe Single 500m.

This competition served not only as a review for domestic canoe sprint youth athletes but also as a selection race for 2024 ICF Canoe Sprint Junior and U23 World Championships. Based on the selection criteria, Jiang Xina and Teng Anshuo, athletes trained by WHSU, and their head coach Zhang Hongwei, will represent China at the 2024 ICF Canoe Sprint Junior and U23 World Championships to be held in Bulgaria this July, thanks to their outstanding performance in this competition.
