WHSU Dragon Dance Team wins two gold medals at Asian Dragon and Lion Dance Championship

From October 25 to 30, the 6th Asian Dragon and Lion Dance Championship, supported by the International Dragon and Lion Dance Federation, hosted by the Asian Dragon and Lion Dance Federation, and organized by the Dragon and Lion Dance Federation of Malaysia, was held in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The competition consists of three major events: Dragon Dance, the Northern Lion Dance and the Southern Lion Dance, covering 12 individual events. It attracted more than 200 athletes of 16 teams from 9 countries and regions, including Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong (China), Macao (China), Taiwan (China), Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia.

Wuhan Sports University (WHSU) selected 14 athletes who are members of the university team from the School of Wushu (China Dragon and Lion Dance Sports Academy), the School of Physical Education and the School of Arts to form the Chinese National Dragon Dance Team to participate in the competition. In the competition, the team members worked together and won two gold medals in Prescribed Dragon Dance and Obstacle Dragon Dance. Especially, in Prescribed Dragon Dance on the first competition day, the team members withstood enormous pressure, showed their vigor and vitality and performed accurate technical movements, thus winning the first gold medal of this year’s Asian Dragon and Lion Dance Championship, which was also the first gold medal won by the Chinese delegation, demonstrating WHSU Dragon Dance Team’s ability to compete and determination to win glory for the motherland, and WHSU students’ courageous struggle and pursuit of excellence.
