He extended a warm welcome to the attending experts and scholars, expressing his gratitude for their long-standing interest and support for the university. Chen emphasized that the CNSSS, initiated and organized by WHSU, aligns with the national strategies of building a strong sporting nation and promoting a healthy China. The project aims to establish the first open database in the field of sports and social surveys in China, contributing to the high-quality development of the sports sector. He also invited the experts to provide valuable suggestions on the distinctive development and high-quality construction of the university’s three academic journals: Journal of Wuhan Sports University, Journal of Sports Education, and Advanced Exercise and Health Science.

At the symposium, Professor Huang Qian, the person in charge of the CNSSS project, along with his team, presented a comprehensive report on the project’s background, significance, key research content, modules, as well as the sampling and statistical methodologies used nationwide. The attending experts unanimously agreed that establishing the first open database in the field of sports and social surveys in China, which systematically and comprehensively collects and analyzes the participation and capabilities of urban and rural residents in various sports fields, is pioneering. This initiative will provide a better understanding of the real state of sports development in the country, support decision-making in the sports industry, foster a paradigm shift in sports sociology research, and cultivate high-level academic research outcomes. Moreover, it will enhance the scientific literacy of students and contribute to the cultivation of high-quality, innovative talents in sports. The project holds significant social, academic, and educational value. The experts also provided constructive feedback and suggestions for the project.

Professor Zhang Ruilin from Beijing Normal University chaired the academic symposium on the development of sports journals. The experts highly praised the efforts made by WHSU’s journal office in supporting the growth of young scholars. They recommended that the journals further strengthen their academic leadership by closely following research trends in specialized fields and frontier areas. The journals should also sharpen their focus on column settings and target audiences to highlight their unique characteristics in sports education. Additionally, they emphasized the need to balance international and local perspectives to enhance China’s international academic discourse in sports research.
Wan Xiaohong, the head of the journal office, presented a report on the recent developments, key initiatives, and challenges encountered in the journal publishing process.
