On October 23, the Seminar on the Development Planning of the English Academic Journal “Advanced Exercise and Health Science” (AEHS) was held at Wuhan Sports University (WHSU). Present at the on-site seminar were Prof. Wang Zhiqiang, a standing member of the Party Committee and Vice President of WHSU, Prof. Andrew McAinch, Editor-in-Chief of AEHS, Prof. Chen Ning, Executive Editor, Dr. Cai Wenjun, Editorial Assistant, and nearly 20 editorial board members from Canada, Belgium, the United States, Italy, Germany, Australia, China and other countries. More than 20 domestic and international editorial board members participated in online real-time discussion via video link.

Wang Zhiqiang delivered a welcome speech. On behalf of WHSU, he extended a warm welcome to all the editorial board members who participated in the development planning seminar, and expressed his sincere gratitude to all the editorial board members and staff members who participated in the planning, preparation, and launching of AEHS for their hard work and dedication. He pointed out that the establishment of the English academic journal is a key move for WHSU to comply with the domestic and international academic trend, enhance the international influence, and start a new journey of building one of China’s foremost and world-class applied research-oriented sports universities.

Editorial board members discussed and exchanged views on the progress on starting AEHS, the construction of the website, the establishment of the submission system, the duties of editorial board members, invitation for manuscript submission, the criteria for reviewing manuscripts, the development orientation, the publicity and promotion strategies, future database inclusion planning and the frontiers and hot issues of international research on exercise and health, which pointed out the development direction for the English journal AEHS, formulated practical plans, and refined action strategies.
It is noted that AEHS is the first international journal (quarterly) founded by WHSU. Prof. Lyu Wangang, President of WHSU, and Prof. Andrew McAinch of the Institute for Health and Sport of Victoria University are the editors-in-chief of this English journal, and Prof. Chen Ning serves as the executive editor. The editorial board consists of more than 50 internationally recognized experts and scholars from more than 10 countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Brazil, Chile, Austria, and China. This academic journal aims to provide an academic exchange platform for global scholars to explore innovative theories and methods in exercise and health, to share original and innovative research results and core technologies in exercise and health, to enhance international academic exchanges and to serve human health, and to contribute to the promotion of global academic exchanges, and is expected to formally publish the first issue in March 2024.
