On the afternoon of October 18, the Forum on Building World Top Sports Colleges and Universities with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era was held successfully at Wuhan Sports University (WHSU). The event saw the participation of executives from 13 sports colleges and universities nationwide. Chen Jiping, Secretary of the Party Committee of WHSU, presided over the forum. Lyu Wangang, President and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of WHSU attended the forum along with heads of relevant departments of WHSU.
Chen extended a warm welcome to the delegates on behalf of WHSU. He said that as one of the earliest independent full-time sports institutions of higher learning established after the founding of the People's Republic of China, WHSU carries a strong sense of political responsibility and a profound historical mission The university is committed to diligently studying and implementing the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress. It aims to leverage its distinctive features and strengths to serve major national strategies, particularly the development of sports prowess, thus heralding a new era for sports colleges and universities. Chen emphasized that WHSU, in collaboration with other sports colleges and universities, is dedicated to creating a new chapter in the establishment of world-class sports universities with distinctive Chinese characteristics.
Lyu expressed his gratitude for permanent support from peer colleges and universities. He introduced WHSU, outlining its disciplinary development and its pursuit of becoming a double first-class university. With a focus on achieving breakthroughs in core indicators such as top talents, top platforms and top achievements, WHSU will endeavor to improve talent training, the faculty, the capabilities of research, innovation and social service, and the quality of opening-up, enhance five mechanisms including coordination, fundraising, resources allocation, incentive & constraint and monitoring & evaluation, in a bid to build a world top sports university, he said.
Under the theme of "Building world top sports colleges and universities with Chinese characteristics in the new era", the forum delved into various critical topics. These included the disciplinary construction of sports science under national strategies, the integrated development of sports science and other disciplines, and the collaborative efforts between sports universities and comprehensive universities.
The forum adopted the initiative on nationwide efforts to build world-top sports colleges and universities with Chinese characteristics in the new era.
