On August 2, Beijing time, Wang Zongyuan, a postgraduate student who was admitted to WHSU’s School of Sports Training in 2024, and his partner Long Daoyi clinched the title in the men’s synchronized 3-meter springboard final of the diving events at the Paris Olympics with a total score of 446.10. This is the 12th gold medal won by the Chinese delegation at the Paris Olympics, and also the first gold medal won by athletes from WHSU at this year’s Olympics.

During the competition, Wang Zongyuan and Long Daoyi demonstrated excellent coordination, achieving a high score of 54.60 on their first dive, ranking first with their outstanding performance, and continuing to perform steadily in the following rounds. Finally, they managed to win the 4th gold medal for the Chinese diving team at this year’s Olympics.

As Wang stood on the springboard, his steps were steady and his eyes were determined. He solely focused on the upcoming dive. After a brief confrontation with gravity, he pierced through the boundary between air and water with a near-perfect posture. At that moment, although only insignificant ripples were created on the surface of the pool, a great storm was stirred up in the hearts of the audience around the world.

Wang started practicing gymnastics at the age of 4, switched to diving at 7, and was selected to join the dream team of diving at 15. Since he started learning diving, he has completed every training session to the fullest extent possible, and has achieved rapid growth in both his competitive skills and mental toughness. In 2021, Wang rounded off his first Olympic journey with a gold and a silver medal, and thus embarked on the mode of “gold medal harvester”, frequently winning championships in various major international events.

He admitted that in the game of chasing and being chased, the pressure of being relentlessly pursued by others is even more oppressive. It is this feeling that constantly reminds him that many things are changing, but hard work can keep everything under control.
