On the 9th, in the lead-up to the 15th National Games, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Chinese President, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, met in Guangzhou with representatives of advanced units and individuals in national mass sports, along with advanced collectives and individuals from the national sports system. He congratulated the representatives and motivated them to strive for continued achievements and contribute to building China into a global sports leader.

Among the distinguished guests received by President Xi were Wang Zongyuan, a master's candidate enrolled in 2024 from WHSU's School of Sports Training, honored as an advanced individual in the national sports system, and Peng Xiaowei, Dean of the School of Physical Education, representing his school as an advanced unit in national mass sports.
Furthermore, four other individuals from WHSU were recognized as "National Advanced Individuals in Mass Sports." These included Zhang Huajie, a national-level coach from the School of Competitive Sports; Yang Yi, Dean of the Graduate School and a professor at the School of Sports Medicine; Mei Bowei, an associate professor at the School of Wushu; and Qiu Hanxiang (retired), an associate professor at the School of Physical Education.

Peng Xiaowei stated that it was a tremendous honor and deeply inspiring to represent WHSU's School of Physical Education and be received by the General Secretary. He emphasized that this recognition belongs to all faculty and students in the school, serving as a powerful affirmation of their long-standing efforts in cultivating top-tier sports talent, establishing roots in primary-level community sports, and serving the national fitness initiative. Peng pledged that WHSU would heed General Secretary Xi's earnest instructions, study and implement his key discourses on education and sports, remain committed to the core principle of physical education, deepen the integration of sports and education, nurture more outstanding sports professionals, support the development of primary-level sports, and contribute greater expertise and strength toward accelerating the building of a nation strong in both sports and education.

As a key national base for high-level athletic talent, WHSU has been honored with the "Sports Contribution Award" by the General Administration of Sport of China. It shoulders the vital responsibility of cultivating and delivering outstanding athletic talent to the nation. The university will heed the ardent anticipation of General Secretary Xi, diligently study, promote, and implement the guiding principles from the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee. Focusing on the development goals of "striving for gold at the Olympics, adding gold at the National Games, and taking the lead at the Hubei Provincial Games," WHSU dedicates itself to strengthening its competitive sports capabilities and fostering a robust foundation for mass sports. The institution aims to forge a new landscape for sports development and play a greater role in the new journey of building a nation strong in sports and education.
