From December 6 to 9, the 21st Annual Conference of the Society of Chinese Scholars on Exercise Physiology and Fitness (SCSEPF) was held at the Wuhan Sports University (WHSU). The conference, themed “New Advances in Exercise Science Theory and Application,” was hosted by SCSEPF and WHSU. It was undertaken by the School of Sports Medicine of WHSU and co-organized by the Strength and Conditioning Division and the Popular Science Working Committee of the China Sport Science Society.

On the morning of December 7, the opening ceremony was held in Lecture Hall 3, East Wing. Prof. Frank Fu Hoo Kin, President of SCSEPF, delivered the opening speech. He noted that since its founding, SCSEPF has been dedicated to advancing the fields of exercise physiology, sports training, and fitness among Chinese scholars, providing a platform to exchange ideas, share findings, and foster collaboration. This conference aims to showcase the latest progress in the fields of exercise physiology and fitness, share cutting-edge insights from world-renowned experts, and encourage participating scholars to contribute to the global development of sports science in areas such as competitive sports, mass sports, and the sports industry.

Zhu Lei, a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of WHSU, delivered a welcome speech. On behalf of WHSU, he extended a warm welcome to the guests and expressed sincere respect to all experts and scholars dedicated to exercise physiology and fitness research. He emphasized that over the years, WHSU has leveraged its advantages as a leader in first-class sports disciplines, establishing schools such as the School of Sports Medicine and the School of Intelligent Sports Engineering. It has promoted the integration of sports with education, healthcare, industry, and the arts, offering WHSU’s unique expertise and resources to advance the nation’s goals in education, sports, and health. Zhu expressed hope that this annual conference would serve as an opportunity to explore the future of exercise physiology and fitness together, ultimately enhancing public health and advancing the sports industry.

During the academic sessions, Prof. Frank Fu Hoo Kin, former Vice President of Hong Kong Baptist University; Prof. Martin Gibala from McMaster University, Canada; and Prof. Li Li from Georgia Southern University delivered engaging keynote speeches, sharing their latest research findings and unique perspectives.

The attending experts and scholars engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as “Fitness and Health Promotion, and Exercise Interventions in the Digital Era,” “Physiological Studies of Traditional Chinese Fitness Methods,” “Advances in Physiological Monitoring in Training and Exercise,” “New Methods for Managing Exercise-Induced Fatigue and Recovery,” “Applications of Sports Nutrition and Traditional Chinese Medicine in Exercise,” and “Molecular and Cellular Exercise Physiology.”

Participants expressed that they gained valuable insights from the conference, enjoying an academic feast while discussing new challenges and exchanging fresh ideas. They collectively pledged to contribute their wisdom and efforts to advancing global sports science.
