WHSU student Wang Zongyuan wins silver medal at Paris Olympics

On August 8, Beijing time, Wang Zongyuan, a postgraduate student who was admitted to WHSU’s School of Sports Training in 2024, won the second place in the men’s individual 3-meter springboard final of the diving events at the Paris Olympics. This is the 69th medal won by the Chinese delegation at the Paris Olympics, and also the 3rd medal won by athletes from WHSU at this year’s Olympics.

In the final, Wang remained calm and composed, scoring 81.60 in the first round, 91.00 in the second round, 95.55 in the third round, 89.25 in the fourth round, 70.20 in the fifth round, and a remarkable 102.60 in the sixth round, which was the highest score of the individual dives. He ultimately won the silver medal with his outstanding performance.

The silver medal is the second medal Wang won at this year’s Olympics. On August 2, Beijing time, he and his partner Long Daoyi won the gold medal in the men’s synchronized 3-meter springboard.

At this year’s Olympics, Wang fulfilled his mission by winning 1 gold and 1 silver medal for the Chinese delegation. With his excellent competitive performance and good mental attitude, he brought a successful conclusion to his journey in Paris, and demonstrated the strong strength of China’s dream team of diving.
